Our annual "Christmas Culture Sunday" where we join both our congregations together to worship in English and Spanish. John 17 was a perfect passage for this gathering as we looked at Jesus' prayer for UNITY in His followers.

In John 16, Jesus tells His followers that it was for their best if He were to go, because then He'd send the Holy Spirit to them. It likely didn't seem like the BEST scenario to them at that moment! But in Chapters 14, 15 and in 16, Jesus was teaching them about the incredible ministry of the Holy Spirit — and in this message we explore what He taught.

While Jesus never promises a life without trouble, He empowers us to hang a "NO TRESPASSING" sign on our hearts that declares to trouble: you are not welcome here!

The Ways of Jesus Pt 15

In John 12, we find the story of a humble, extravagant, prophetic act of generosity — Mary pouring out costly perfume to anoint the feet of Jesus, just before He goes to the cross. She did this because she cared deeply, one of the traits of those who are learning to walk in the Ways of Jesus.

In John 7:17, Jesus says, “If anyone chooses to do God's will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.” There is a direct link between our doing and our knowing. When we choose to do God’s will, something is unlocked in our thinking and we come to understand the words and ways of Jesus. But the opposite is also true: If we choose not to do God’s will, the words and ways of Jesus will always remain a mystery to us.

In John 6 we read two of Jesus' most well-remembered miracles: when he fed the 5,000 and walked on water. But the crowds didn't get it. While they enjoyed the "natural" benefits of Jesus' miracles, they missed the bigger picture of the "supernatural" work he was doing. This conflict helps us understand the contrast between OUR ways and HIS ways.
